Knife
Gee, I don’t like this girl! She’s weird somehow, I’m not used to her at all. When she tries to speak, she grabs the words and wrestles with them, but it’s like a dull knife – doesn’t cut right! When a tool is dull, it’s not good enough anymore, you know what I mean? You’ve got to do something about it, either sharpen it or find the receipt and return it!
G told L: «maybe I should just quit school and become a housewife! »
Gh is super critical; a bit of a perfectionist. For a couple of years now, she’s been trying to let go of her perfectionism, but she still feels it every single day! She knows what she wants. She even knows exactly how she wants the things she wants! She hates cooking. Hates doing the dishes even more. She knows two or three dishes, and that’s only because she feels guilty for not helping out at home at all! During the COVID lockdown, she went through a phase of baking cookies nonstop but quickly gave up on it! Gh has decided not to take on any in-person jobs and just occasionally illustrate a book or two simply because work limits her time for her art practice! She goes to therapy once a week, and horseback riding, and sure she sees her friends every single day. Gh’s knife is so sharp it sometimes cuts the tips of her fingers!
G seems awkward in a crowd! A strange kid with a strange name, with a dull knife. She works in the woodshop downstairs. When she gets home at 9:30 at night, she cooks for herself! Gh can’t believe it. She’s so proud of G! Sh says, “A plate of Makarooni, pasta, isn’t worth all this fuss,” but I insist it’s a big deal! I say, “Remember when I tried to make one meal, I forced you to chop the green onions and T to grate the carrots!”
Sh laughs.
I still haven’t had the chance to tell Sh that G pickled cucumbers, cauliflower mix and Mashhadi torshi!
Gh doesn’t like the pickles here.
G washed and thoroughly dried the vegetables. Chopped them with her dull knife and spent the whole weekend making pickles for her.
Gee, I don’t dislike this girl after all! She’s just weird, I’m not used to her yet, but her cooking is actually really good. Her dishes are never left dirty, and she knows how to make several kinds of torshi (pickles)!
